Music is often said to be the soundtrack of our lives - but why not give it a nice video?

MACHINE ON A BREAK - THINgs that go bump

In 2022, I directed a music video for Western Sydney artist ‘Machine on a Break’. Much of MOAB’s music has a political commentary, and for this one it was about women in violent partnerships - it’s in this regard we made the music video also a horror film.

The music video features an elaborate lighting setup, harsh blues and reds, as well as a choreography done by British Flower and stunts by Taras Jones.

Things That Go Bump went on to win ‘best horror’ at the Made In The West Film Festival in 2022.

Machine on a Break - Honestly

In 2023 I was asked once more to make a music video for the artist Machine on a Break. The idea was to depict MOAB as how our previous projects had depicted her. We wanted something classy, and with a romantic aesthetic similar to that of a casino.

The song in itself centred around the clash of political ideas - a former partner that turned out to be more conservative than they originally presented themself as. For this project we also used both anamorphics and square lenses, combined with careful lighting to give it that dreamy, yet cinematic look.

Sarah Jane - Finger

In 2022, I directed a music video for Sydney artist, Sarah Jane. Sarah currently has over 300 thousand subscribers on YouTube and over 35 million views. ‘Finger’ was an ultra-low budget production and was shot across three days throughout Sydney’s south-east and inner west.

Sarah Jane - Frame

The music video for Frame was shot across a single day and in a single location. The idea was to make a music video with a shot within a shot within a shot and have that going until the bridge where we would finally break the chain and deconstruct the music video from there on.

As expected, this video required meticulous pre-production planning.

Machine on a Break - Magic Pill

After the success of Things That Go Bump, Machine on a Break asked me to make another video for her next release ‘Magic Pill’. It involved a bit more experimentation, mostly from a singular perspective.

The artist wanted something quite personal, so I endeavoured to make something original and relative whilst being minimalistic, and decided to use a Snorricam for most of the shots.

Vox Neon

In 2021, I made a series of promotional videos for cover band Vox Neon. This helped plug their shows to a large audience and has sinced helped them sell out shows throughout NSW and the ACT.

This one is Depeche Mode’s song ‘Enjoy the Silence’.
